KARACHI: A suspect identified as Abbas was allegedly killed due to police firing and torture inside Paposh Nagar Police Station, raising serious questions over custodial practices.
According to reports, following court directives, the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle has registered a case against two police officials involved in the incident — Sub-Inspector Khadim Hussain and Constable Izhar-ul-Haq.
The FIR states that the suspect was initially shown as having escaped from the police lockup and later killed in an alleged encounter. However, the victim’s body bore multiple torture marks, contradicting the official version.
The Paposh Nagar Police had earlier registered an encounter case on July 30, but a judicial magistrate ordered an inquiry by the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle. Subsequently, DIG West Zone forwarded a formal request to the FIA for case registration and investigation.
According to the police version, Abbas reportedly tried to snatch a pistol after being ordered to surrender, during which the weapon accidentally discharged, resulting in his death. Investigations are ongoing to determine the authenticity of the police account.
