ISLAMABAD: The federal government has ordered the complete shutdown of Utility Stores Corporation across Pakistan. Starting today, all utility stores have stopped selling food and other daily-use items.
According to media reports, the Board of Directors confirmed the closure and suspended all operations. Goods from all stores are being shifted to warehouses, and the digital ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system has also been switched off.
This move has caused concern among low-income families who depended on subsidized items from these stores. Utility Stores Corporation had been providing affordable essentials like sugar, flour, ghee, rice, and lentils for decades.
No official announcement has been made yet about whether the service will return or if an alternative system will replace it.
