A new study has found that a diet rich in processed foods can affect the ability to maintain concentration.
New research conducted by Monash University, University of São Paulo and Deakin University has revealed that consuming large amounts of processed (factory-made) foods can affect the brain’s ability to stay focused and increase the risk of Dementia.
Published in the Alzheimer’s & Dementia: Diagnosis, Assessment & Disease Monitoring, the study analyzed the diet and mental health of more than 2,100 Australian individuals who were free of dementia and were middle-aged or older.
The results showed that even a slight increase in the daily intake of ultra-processed foods can lead to a noticeable decline in attention, even if a person appears to be consuming a healthy diet.
Lead researcher Barbara Cardoso, who is affiliated with Monash University’s Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food and the Victorian Heart Institute, said that the study clearly highlights a strong link between industrially produced food and cognitive decline.
