LAHORE: The 982nd urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Ali Hajveri, widely known as Data Ganj Bakhsh, began in Lahore on Wednesday, attracting thousands of devotees from across the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar inaugurated the three-day celebrations by laying the traditional chador at the shrine and offering Fateha. Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and Provincial Minister for Food and Housing Bilal Yasin also attended, welcoming Dar and joining the prayers.
The annual urs draws pilgrims from Punjab and other provinces to pay tribute to the saint. Authorities have enforced strict security measures to ensure smooth proceedings.
The Lahore district administration has declared Friday, August 15, a public holiday to facilitate participation in the event.
