The Gates Foundation has announced a $2.5 billion investment in women’s health by 2030.

This money will help improve maternal health, nutrition, contraception, and more — especially in countries like Pakistan.

Bill Gates said that even today, many women die from preventable causes due to poor healthcare. The foundation wants to change this by supporting innovation in areas like pregnancy care, menstrual health, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), according to Dawn.

Dr. Anita Zaidi, a senior leader at the Gates Foundation, said that women have long been left out of medical research, which leads to poor treatment.

She stressed that women’s health needs urgent attention and funding.

In Pakistan, the foundation is already working with programs like BISP Nashonuma to support maternal nutrition, and funding local efforts such as Awaaz-e-Sehat, an AI tool from LUMS that helps women track their health.

Dr. Zaidi noted that newborn deaths in Pakistan are among the highest in the world, mainly due to poor women’s health. She added, “Without focusing on women, Pakistan cannot move forward.”
