MAKKAH: Imam and Khateeb of Masjid al-Haram, Sheikh Yasir Al-Dosari, strongly warned Muslims about the growing negative impact of social media during his Friday sermon, urging responsible online behavior and truth verification before sharing any content.
Addressing worshippers at Masjid al-Haram, he expressed deep concern over how fake and paid social media accounts are spreading false statements, causing societal unrest and harming the reputation of scholars. He warned that every post or shared message on social media will be accountable before Allah on the Day of Judgment.
Sheikh Al-Dosari described such deceptive accounts as “dangerous weapons” that intentionally promote lies and fuel anxiety within society. He criticized the misuse of smartphones, saying they were meant to connect people but are now increasing isolation, jealousy, and ungratefulness.
He also highlighted that social media is promoting a fake lifestyle and unnecessary comparisons, leading to spiritual and social illnesses.
The Imam further condemned false religious verdicts and slander against scholars as part of anti Islam campaigns, calling on Muslims to be alert and responsible in their online conduct.
In a heartfelt message, he urged Muslims to also remember and support their oppressed Palestinian brothers and sisters, and to stand firmly against those who kill innocent women and children such oppressors must be completely dismantled.
