KARACHI, August 6: In a suspected sectarian attack, Ali Waris Bangash, son of senior Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) leader Maulana Rajab Ali Bangash, was shot dead along with another individual in the Pehalwan Goth area of Gulistan-e-Jauhar late Monday night.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the victims were sitting outside a battery shop when two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire indiscriminately. Five individuals sustained critical injuries in the incident. Despite prompt efforts by rescue teams to shift the wounded to a nearby private hospital, Ali Waris and Syed Mazhar Abbas succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
While initial reports suggest two assailants riding a motorcycle were involved, some unverified accounts point to the possible involvement of a car in the attack. The case is being treated as a targeted sectarian killing, and further investigations are underway.
The funeral prayers for Ali Waris and Mazhar Abbas were held on Tuesday and were attended by a large number of mourners, including community elders, religious leaders, and political representatives.
Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen’s central leader, Allama Sadiq Jafari, strongly condemned the attack, terming it an act of sectarian terrorism aimed at destabilizing peace in the city. He urged law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
