Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has reported that ongoing floods have wreaked havoc across Punjab, affecting more than 4.1 million people in 4,100 villages. The calamity has so far claimed at least 56 lives, with thousands more displaced.

According to PDMA officials, heavy monsoon rains and overflowing rivers have inundated large swathes of agricultural land, destroying standing crops and washing away infrastructure, including homes, schools, and roads. Rescue and relief operations are underway, with thousands of families shifted to temporary shelters.

Authorities have set up relief camps in the worst-hit districts, while medical teams are providing emergency assistance to flood victims. The PDMA added that food supplies, tents, and medicines are being dispatched to affected areas.

Officials warned that if rainfall continues, the number of displaced families could rise further. The authority has urged citizens in low-lying areas to move to safer locations and remain alert for fresh advisories.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab has directed all district administrations to expedite relief efforts and ensure the timely provision of essential items to the victims.
