ISLAMABAD: The United States and Pakistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together in the exploration and development of critical minerals, a move aimed at boosting bilateral relations and strengthening energy security.

The agreement was inked on Monday at the Prime Minister’s House between US Strategic Metals (USSM), a Missouri based company specializing in critical minerals, and Pakistan’s Frontier Works Organization (FWO). Senior officials from both sides attended the ceremony, with Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy Zachary Harkenrider accompanying the American delegation.

Welcoming the development, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker called the MoU “a reflection of the growing, mutually beneficial relationship” between the two countries. She stressed that partnerships in the minerals sector are essential for advancing economic cooperation, adding that the US government views such collaborations as vital for security and prosperity.

Critical minerals, identified by the US Department of Energy as essential for clean energy, defense, and advanced technologies, are increasingly seen as the backbone of modern industries. USSM, which specializes in producing and reusing these resources, will support Pakistan in unlocking its mineral potential.

Baker expressed optimism about future ventures, saying this agreement is likely to pave the way for more US companies to partner with Pakistan’s minerals and mining sector in the coming years.
