“Karachi Set to Drench as Heavy Rains Hit Sept 9–10”

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in Karachi on September 9 and 10, prompting authorities to activate emergency measures across the city.

According to the PMD, the ongoing monsoon spell will bring widespread showers with temperatures expected to reach 34°C, humidity levels around 91%, and winds blowing at 11 km/h.

In anticipation of urban flooding, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has installed 16 dewatering pumps at key points. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has also directed city officials to clear nullahs and drainage channels to reduce the risk of waterlogging.

The warning comes after last month’s torrential rains that left several areas of the metropolis inundated, causing transport disruptions, flight delays, and prolonged power outages.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the rain spell and remain updated through official advisories. Emergency services are on standby to respond to any potential flooding or related incidents.
