Successful Bypass Surgery of Newborn

Usually, heart surgeries are performed on older individuals, but doctors have successfully carried out a bypass surgery on a newborn.

‎Due to neglecting natural requirements, excessive consumption of unhealthy junk food, and a sedentary lifestyle, cases of heart attacks are now being reported even among young children. However, severe heart problems and surgeries are still generally faced by older people.

‎In Saudi Arabia, however, doctors successfully performed an open-heart surgery (bypass operation) on a newborn, saving the mother from losing her child.

‎According to Saudi news agency SPA, the highly sensitive and complex surgery of the 10 day old newborn was performed at the Makkah Pediatrics Hospital. The baby, weighing 3.5 kilograms, was brought to the hospital with severe breathing difficulties.

‎Upon examining the child, doctors immediately put him on artificial respiration. An ultrasound revealed that the baby’s heart artery was congenitally narrow, preventing adequate oxygen supply to the body.

‎Considering the seriousness of the condition, doctors decided to operate immediately. The extremely delicate and complex surgery took more than four hours to complete.

‎Doctors stated that the operation was particularly critical because the newborn was only 10 days old and his heart arteries were extremely fragile and tiny.

‎After the successful surgery, the hospital staff reported that the baby’s condition has started to improve, with oxygen supply to the heart restored up to 90 percent.
