Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the suspension of electricity bill collection for August in flood-affected regions across Pakistan, offering immediate relief to millions of families struggling after recent floods.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister on the issue of electricity bills in disaster-hit areas. He directed all power distribution companies to stop the recovery process with immediate effect.
Sharif further stated that a comprehensive relief package concerning electricity bills will be finalized once ongoing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are completed. For consumers in flood-stricken areas who have already cleared their August bills, the paid amount will be adjusted in the next billing cycle.
Highlighting the scale of devastation, the premier noted that millions of people nationwide had been impacted by the floods. He reassured that both federal and provincial governments will continue relief and rehabilitation efforts until displaced families are able to safely return to their homes.
“We will not rest until the flood victims are resettled,” the prime minister stressed.
