In a major setback for India, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the much-anticipated ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan due to injury. The development came just hours before the high-voltage clash on Sunday.

Pandya, who picked up a niggle during India’s Super Fours encounter with Sri Lanka, will be replaced by Rinku Singh in the playing XI.

At the toss, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav confirmed the changes, saying:
“Hardik misses out with a niggle. Bumrah, Dube, and Rinku come in.” India opted to bowl first after winning the toss.

This contest holds historic significance, marking the first-ever Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan, heightening the intensity of an already fierce rivalry.

Asia Cup: A Look Back

The tournament began in 1984 in the UAE, with India winning the inaugural edition.

The first-ever Asia Cup final took place in 1986, where Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in Colombo.

Pakistan lifted their maiden Asia Cup in 2000 after beating Sri Lanka in Dhaka, and added a second title in 2012. They have appeared in five finals, winning twice and finishing runners-up three times, including against Sri Lanka in 2022.

India remain the most successful team in Asia Cup history, featuring in 11 finals and securing eight titles, alongside three runner-up finishes.

With both teams eyeing continental glory, the absence of Pandya is a major blow to India, while Rinku Singh now faces the challenge of proving himself on the biggest stage of Asian cricket.
