ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rains, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms across multiple regions of the country from October 2 to 7. The system is expected to affect Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Sindh, and parts of Balochistan, raising concerns over flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding in vulnerable areas.

According to the advisory, Punjab’s major cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad will experience moderate to heavy rainfall between October 4 and 6. Similar conditions are expected in Murree, Galiyat, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, with the possibility of hailstorms in some pockets. In Sindh, Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, and other districts are likely to witness rain and wind-thunderstorms on October 3.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, nearly all districts — including Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, Chitral, and Kohat — are set to receive widespread showers from October 2 to 7. The PMD also warned of heavy rainfall in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, and other parts of Kashmir, as well as Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, and Diamer in Gilgit-Baltistan between October 4 and 7. Higher mountain ranges in KP, GB, and Kashmir may also receive early snowfall.

The Met Office cautioned that intense showers could trigger flash floods in rivers and streams of northern KP, Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi-Islamabad, and Azad Kashmir. Landslides in hilly regions and urban flooding in major cities were also highlighted as possible risks. Authorities have advised local administrations and residents in vulnerable areas to remain on alert during this spell of heavy weather.
