LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) has taken disciplinary action against 17 students for violating campus rules and regulations.

According to a PU statement, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Shah heard appeals filed by the students against the disciplinary committee’s verdict but rejected them, upholding the penalties.

The punishments include fines ranging from Rs20,000 to Rs45,000, one-year rustication, compensation for damages, and in some cases, permanent expulsion with a complete ban on entry into the university.

The students facing fines and rustication belong to the College of Statistical Sciences, Department of Gender Studies, and Department of Elementary Education. Meanwhile, students from the Department of Technology Education and Educational Research have been expelled and declared persona non grata.

Additionally, students from the Department of Social Work, Institute of Administrative Sciences, and Technology Education will remain suspended for one academic year.

The PU administration reiterated its zero-tolerance stance towards indiscipline and disruptive activities on campus.
