Oxford University Press Pakistan (OUPP) organized the School Leaders’ Conference in Karachi, uniting educators, policymakers, and academic experts from across the region to explore innovative ways of improving teaching, learning, and assessment in Pakistan.
Themed “Empowering Learners for Impact,” the conference focused on equipping schools and teachers with tools to prepare students for a rapidly changing global environment. Key issues discussed included skills-based curricula, teacher development, digital learning, and leadership in education.
In his opening address, Arshad Saeed Husain, Managing Director of OUP Pakistan, highlighted the urgent need to prioritize skills-based learning, modern pedagogy, and digital competence to help students thrive globally. “Oxford University Press will continue to be on this journey with you,” he said, reaffirming OUP’s commitment to teacher training and quality education in Pakistan.
Distinguished speakers included Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Dr. Penelope Woolf, Yasmeen Rajbhoy, Iffat Basrai, Hassan Khan, Minhas Tejani, Dr. Stephen Lyon, and Fozia Ahsan Farooqui. Dr. Woolf, OUP’s Director of Impact & Learning Design, emphasized that the organization is dedicated to creating educational solutions grounded in research and effective pedagogy to deliver measurable impact in classrooms.
Shahnaz Wazir Ali criticized Pakistan’s rigid and outdated education system, urging policymakers to remove excessive regulations and empower teachers and students to drive meaningful change. She called for investment in quality teaching and flexible learning systems that unlock children’s potential.
The day-long event featured presentations and panel discussions on preparing students for the future, fostering innovation in teaching, promoting collaborative leadership, and integrating digital learning tools through OUPP’s blended learning resources.
The conference concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing educators to directly engage with OUP’s leadership and assessment experts, reinforcing the organization’s ongoing role in advancing education across Pakistan.
