According to recent medical research, white individuals are at a higher risk of contracting a particular deadly diarrheal disease known as Clostridioides difficile infection compared to others.
Reports indicate that this study was conducted by American experts, and the findings were published in the Journal of Infection and Public Health and other scientific journals.
This infection is caused by a dangerous bacterium that affects the intestines. It often occurs after excessive use of antibiotics, as these medications destroy beneficial bacteria in the gut, allowing this particular bacterium to grow rapidly.
The infection can cause severe diarrhea, abdominal swelling and pain, fever, and in some cases, intestinal perforation or life threatening complications.
One possible reason for this is the difference in gut bacterial composition. Moreover, white individuals tend to have a higher rate of prolonged antibiotic use, which increases the risk of this disease.
White patients especially those hospitalized were found to be the most affected.
Preventive Measures:
1. Avoid unnecessary use of antibiotics.
2. Maintain proper hand hygiene and ensure disinfection in hospital environments.
3. If someone has prolonged diarrhea and is using antibiotics, they should consult a doctor immediately.
4. Probiotic foods (such as yogurt) can help restore healthy gut bacteria.
