Punjab’s efforts to curb stubble burning have started showing real results, moving beyond policy promises to measurable progress. Through the introduction of mechanised harvesting units, subsidised farming equipment, and comprehensive farmer support programmes, the province has successfully managed to cover around 600,000 acres of farmland under cleaner, sustainable practices.
According to SUPARCO satellite data, the province has recorded a remarkable 65% reduction in fire-related anomalies this year a clear indication that the government’s multi-pronged strategy is paying off.
Officials credit the success to increased farmer awareness, timely distribution of modern equipment, and strict monitoring measures. The initiative not only helps control air pollution and smog but also supports Punjab’s broader push toward sustainable agriculture and environmental protection.
