Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ubaidullah has stated that 50 percent of medicines in the country are now under the pricing control of pharmaceutical companies; however, the government’s authority over essential medicines remains intact.
Dr. Ubaidullah said that the government’s authority over essential medicine prices has not ended. With the deregulation of 50 percent of medicines, the power to determine prices has been transferred to the companies.
The DRAP head added that a survey of 100 medicines has been completed. He assured that any directives from the government will be implemented immediately. He also announced the start of the second phase, which will include a survey on the prices of more medicines available in the market to assess further increases.
