ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday departed for Azerbaijan on a two-day official visit from November 7–8, to participate in celebrations marking the fifth anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Victory Day.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO), the visit comes at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The prime minister will attend the Victory Day festivities in Baku, commemorating Azerbaijan’s historic success.

“During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz will hold a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev to review the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and explore new avenues to further deepen cooperation in diverse sectors, including trade, investment, energy, defence, education, and regional connectivity,” the FO said.

Highlighting the strong ties between the two nations, the FO underscored that Pakistan and Azerbaijan share deep-rooted fraternal relations grounded in shared faith, history, culture, and mutual trust. The two countries also cooperate closely at regional and international fora, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), and the United Nations (UN).

The visit, the FO added, will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and will further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two brotherly countries.

This marks Prime Minister Shehbaz’s third visit to Azerbaijan in 2025, following his earlier trips in February and July. During his previous visit, he led Pakistan’s delegation at the 17th ECO Summit held in Khankendi, where he also met President Aliyev on the sidelines to reaffirm the growing strength of bilateral ties.
