Special Olympics Winter Games medalists honoured at ceremony in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A celebratory event was organised at a private hotel in the federal capital to acknowledge the achievements of Pakistani athletes who delivered remarkable performances at the Special Olympics World Winter Games Italy 2025.

The ceremony was graced by the Chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan, Ronak Lakhani, who attended as the chief guest.

As per the details, Pakistan’s special athletes showcased exceptional talent in the Italy Winter Games held in March 2025, securing a total of 15 medals for the country.

To appreciate their efforts, the Pakistan Sports Board and Special Olympics Pakistan distributed cash prizes during the event. Athletes Shah Guloon, Ali Raza, and Muneeb-ur-Rehman were present, along with coordinators Sadia Baig and Amna Ashraf, and coaches Shumaila Irum, Muhammad Saleem, and Islamabad Region coach Raja Faisal Ashraf.

OGCL’s Sumbal Wahab Usman also attended the ceremony.

Chairperson Ronak Lakhani praised the athletes, saying that Pakistan’s Special Olympians are the nation’s true champions. She further highlighted the valuable support from the federal and Sindh governments, noting:
“If the government continues its cooperation, these national heroes will earn even more medals and continue raising Pakistan’s flag high. Our special athletes are a national treasure.”

Actor Sarwat Gilani serves as the brand ambassador for Special Olympics Pakistan.

Coach Shumaila Iram expressed her pride, stating:
“Our organisation provides the best facilities to these athletes. I am honoured to train Pakistan’s special players. Their talent and dedication make them the pride of the nation.”
