The Punjab School Education Department has announced that a professional teaching license will become mandatory for teachers in both government and private schools starting 2026.

Officials said a summary will soon be forwarded to the Provincial Cabinet for final approval. Under the proposed system, teachers will be required to pass a licensing test before being granted the official teaching license.

The Punjab Examination Commission (PEC/PECTA) will conduct the licensing test and monitor the entire process. Contract teachers will also have their job extensions linked to the successful acquisition of this license.

According to the department, the initiative aims to improve teaching quality, maintain professional standards, and ensure better learning outcomes for students across the province.
