World Marks Solidarity Day for Palestine Today

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is being observed today across the world, including Pakistan, as global communities renew their support for the dignity, justice, and self determination of Palestinians.

Observed every year on 29 November, the day highlights the international commitment to Palestinian rights and calls for a just resolution to the decades-long conflict. The commemoration traces back to 1977, when the UN General Assembly declared the date as a global day of solidarity. It also marks the anniversary of the 1947 UN resolution on the partition of Palestine.

Under Resolution 60/37, adopted in 2005, the UNGA urged the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People to continue organizing exhibitions and cultural events in collaboration with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine. Member states were also encouraged to promote and support the observance widely.

On this occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm and consistent backing for the Palestinian people’s right to self determination. They reiterated Pakistan’s call for the creation of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The day serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle of the Palestinian people and the responsibility of the global community to uphold their rights.
