RAWALPINDI: Security forces eliminated seven terrorists in two intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in North Waziristan, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday, as Pakistan intensifies its counterterrorism push under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the first operation was conducted in the Mir Ali area, where troops engaged a hideout belonging to militants described as Indian-proxy Fitna al-Khawarij. After an intense exchange of fire, six terrorists were killed.

In a separate operation in Spinwam, security forces killed another militant during a brief gunfight.

Weapons Recovered; Militants Linked to Deadly Attacks

The ISPR said weapons and ammunition were seized from the militants, who it claimed were involved in multiple attacks on security forces, law enforcement agencies, and targeted killings of civilians.

The statement added that sanitisation operations were underway to clear the area of any remaining militants, vowing that the ongoing counterterrorism campaign would continue at full pace to eradicate “foreign-sponsored terrorism” from Pakistan.

Rise in Terror Incidents

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp resurgence in terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since 2021, following the return of the Afghan Taliban to power.

A police report highlighted that KP recorded more than 600 terror incidents in the first eight months of 2025 alone, resulting in the martyrdom of 79 police personnel and the deaths of 138 civilians.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Taliban authorities in Kabul to prevent militant groups from using Afghan soil against Pakistan. The issue has recently escalated into heightened border tensions, including cross-border attacks attributed to Afghan forces and subsequent retaliatory strikes by Pakistan.
