HYDERABAD: The Civil Hospital Hyderabad, a major healthcare provider in the region, is currently facing a crisis as several critical medical machines have broken down, severely disrupting patient care. The hospital’s MRI and CT scan machines, along with vital operation theatre equipment, have been reported as out of service, causing considerable challenges for both medical staff and patients.
Sources at Civil Hospital Hyderabad have confirmed that two MRI machines have been awaiting repairs for several months. In addition, three CT scan machines have failed one after another, including the CT scan machine dedicated to emergency cases, which has also ceased functioning. The failure of these essential diagnostic tools has left the hospital unable to perform vital procedures, leading to long delays for patients in need of timely care.
Complaints regarding faulty operation theatre equipment have also been increasing, further exacerbating the hospital’s operational challenges. With these critical medical tools unavailable, the hospital’s ability to perform surgeries and other essential procedures has been severely hindered.
Despite receiving an annual budget of PKR 2 billion, these machines remain unrepaired. Sources have indicated that corruption inquiries related to the hospital’s budget are currently underway, raising concerns about the allocation and management of funds meant for essential repairs and maintenance.
The hospital is reported to perform around 1,000 MRI and CT scans daily. However, due to the breakdown of these machines, patients are now being forced to seek diagnostic services at private healthcare centers, often at higher costs. This situation has left many patients frustrated and struggling to find affordable care.
In response to the growing concerns, the hospital administration has stated that some of the machines are out of warranty and that repairs require a significant budget, which has already been requested from the Sindh government. The hospital is waiting for approval of the necessary funds to carry out repairs and ensure that patient care is no longer compromised.
Civil Hospital Hyderabad’s challenges highlight the urgent need for better healthcare infrastructure and transparency in the management of public health funds. As the situation continues to unfold, the hospital’s patients are left to cope with the consequences of the ongoing equipment failures, waiting for timely solutions.
