Punjab EPA Seizes PU Buses Over Heavy Smoke, Launches Major Crackdown

Lahore — The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has seized several Punjab University buses after they were found emitting excessive smoke during routine inspections on Canal Road.

Inspection teams reported that the vehicles were releasing thick emissions and were operating without mandatory environmental fitness certificates.

According to EPA officials, the buses were impounded on the spot, and legal action was initiated under the Environmental Protection Act. The operation is part of a broader crackdown against smoke-emitting vehicles run by universities, colleges, schools, and hospitals across Punjab.

Authorities said that aging and poorly maintained buses are major contributors to smog in Lahore and other cities. Monitoring teams have been deployed province-wide to stop unfit vehicles from entering public roads.

The EPA warned that strict penalties will be imposed on institutions operating non-compliant vehicles, stressing that reducing vehicular pollution is crucial for safeguarding public health and improving air quality.
