The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has officially opened the registration portal for the Law Admission Test (LAT) 2026. Aspiring law students across Pakistan can now submit their applications through the commission’s online portal to secure their eligibility for undergraduate LLB programs.

The test is mandatory for admission to all public and private sector universities, as well as their affiliated colleges, recognized by the HEC and the Pakistan Bar Council. Without a passing score on this assessment, candidates cannot enroll in a five-year LLB degree, regardless of their academic history.

The registration process is exclusively online. Candidates must visit the HEC’s Education Testing Council (ETC) website to create a profile and submit their application.

The commission has set the application fee at Rs. 1,500, which must be deposited in the HEC’s designated bank account via 1BILL invoice service. Applicants should be aware of the specific eligibility criteria.

Only those who have passed their Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent examinations are eligible to register. Students awaiting their final results are also permitted to apply, provided they submit proof of their completed intermediate studies during the verification phase.

The LAT assessment evaluates candidates on a broad spectrum of skills essential for legal studies. The paper includes sections on English, Urdu, General Knowledge, Pakistan Studies, Islamic Studies, and Mathematics, alongside a subjective component featuring essay and personal statement writing. The test is scored out of 100, and a minimum of 50 marks is required to qualify.

The HEC has advised students to complete their registrations well before the final deadline to avoid technical congestion on the web portal.

Detailed instructions regarding the test date, examination centers, and roll number slips will be communicated to registered candidates through the ETC portal and email notifications closer to the assessment window.

For those planning to pursue a career in law, this registration represents the first formal hurdle in a competitive landscape where seats in top-tier law schools remain highly sought after.
