Jinnah Hospital in the port city is regarded as the country’s largest government hospital, but unfortunately, due to negligence and criminal indifference on the part of the authorities, patients are facing severe mental distress.
Patients coming here are deprived of many basic facilities as well as medicines, yet there is no one to look after their plight.
According to the report, the hospital administration is facing a serious shortage of paramedical staff, nursing staff, and faculty. The basic reason cited is that medical officers have already been provided by the Sindh Health Department.
In addition, faculty has also been provided by Jinnah Sindh Medical University. However, when it comes to appointments, the situation remains pending, due to which multiple issues remain unresolved.
Due to the lack of facilities provided in the government hospital, patients undergoing treatment are even forced to purchase essential medicines from the market.
Jinnah Hospital spokesperson Dr Waqas Khan, while speaking exclusively, said that the hospital currently requires 2,000 personnel to address the staff shortage.
Speaking about the funds allocated to the hospital and the shortage of staff, he said that there are certain court related matters concerning the funds. Moreover, court stay orders have been issued regarding jobs that were on contract. Another reason is that existing government employees have completed their service period and retired, and no replacements have been provided.
