Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved Rs9.282 billion for urgent road repairs and infrastructure upgrades across Karachi’s key industrial areas, aiming to ease daily hardships for businesses, workers, and transporters.
The funding package covers major industrial zones, with Rs2 billion allocated to the SITE Association of Trade and Industry and another Rs2 billion each for the Landhi and Korangi associations, including the Pakistan Tanners Association. The Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry will receive Rs1 billion, while the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry has been allotted Rs721.74 million. The F.B. Area Association of Trade and Industry will get Rs860.55 million, and Rs700 million has been set aside for both phases of the SITE Superhighway.
Officials briefed the chief minister on the first phase of the plan, which focuses on immediate repair and maintenance work to restore damaged roads and improve access within industrial zones. The Karachi commissioner led consultations to ensure that allocations were fair and based on actual needs, keeping in view traffic flow, safety, and economic activity.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the project would be funded through the Infrastructure Development Cess collected by the Excise and Taxation Department, underlining the government’s commitment to supporting industry and improving urban infrastructure.
Industrial representatives welcomed the decision and urged the government to release funds through a grant-in-aid mechanism to speed up implementation, rather than routing the project through the Annual Development Programme. They said quicker execution would reduce losses, improve mobility, and help keep Karachi’s industrial engine running smoothly.
