LAHORE – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Saturday sent Shahrez Khan, nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan, to jail on judicial remand in the May 9 riots case linked to the attack on Jinnah House.
Shahrez, the son of Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, was arrested on August 21 in connection with the high-profile case. His brother, Shershah Khan, is also facing charges in the same matter.
The May 9 riots erupted nationwide following Imran Khan’s arrest in 2023 on corruption charges. Protesters targeted military and state installations, with the attack on Jinnah House in Lahore becoming a central symbol of the unrest.
On Saturday, Lahore police presented Shahrez before ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill upon the completion of his physical remand. The prosecution requested an extension for further investigation, but the court rejected the plea and instead sent him to judicial custody.
Both Shahrez and his brother Shershah are accused of running an anti-state campaign and participating in violent activities during the May 9 events.
According to earlier reports, Shershah was allegedly present with PTI lawyer Hassan Niazi during the Jinnah House attack and was accused of arson, vandalism, torching a police van, and orchestrating a digital campaign against state institutions.
Sources added that Shershah went into hiding after the violence and later fled to London, where he remained for nearly two years.
The court’s latest order marks another development in the ongoing crackdown on individuals linked to the May 9 riots.
