KUWAIT CITY — The Nationality Investigation Department in Kuwait has successfully uncovered a massive, decades-old citizenship fraud case involving a man who assumed the identity of a citizen who died over 50 years ago. According to security sources, the original Kuwaiti citizen passed away on April 26, 1970, at the age of 30. However, taking advantage of a lack of electronic data integration between government departments at the time, the suspect managed to secure a Kuwaiti civil ID under the deceased man’s name in 1987, living under false pretenses for decades and registering an entire family in the process.

Acting on a confidential tip, investigators reviewed historical records from the Births and Deaths Registry and located the suspect. During interrogation, the man confessed to holding another Gulf nationality and possessed a driver’s license reflecting his real identity. While the stolen papers claimed he was born in 1940, forensic age assessments determined he was actually born around 1960. Backed by the 1970 death certificate, foreign identification documents, and medical findings, authorities referred the case to the Public Prosecution. Consequently, Kuwait’s Higher Committee for Citizenship Investigation revoked the citizenship of the suspect and all 20 of his dependents.
