PIA to Keep Name, Logo After Privatisation

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will retain its national identity even after privatisation, as the government has decided to protect the airline’s name, logo, and symbolic status during the sale process.

According to aviation sector sources quoted by ARY News, the national flag carrier will continue to operate under the name “PIA,” and its well-known logo will remain unchanged. Authorities have assured that the airline’s historical value and national character will not be compromised under new ownership.

While incoming investors will be free to introduce administrative, financial, and operational reforms, matters linked to PIA’s brand, identity, and national image will stay preserved. Officials said this approach aims to balance reform with respect for the airline’s legacy.

Earlier this week, the Arif Habib Consortium officially acquired Pakistan International Airlines by winning the privatisation bid with an offer of Rs135 billion. The consortium secured 75 percent of PIA’s shares, narrowly beating the Lucky Consortium, which offered Rs134 billion.

Under the agreement, the government will receive Rs10.2 billion in immediate cash. This deal marks Pakistan’s first major privatisation in nearly two decades and is expected to reduce the financial burden on taxpayers by saving around Rs35 billion each year in subsidies and operational losses.

Following the acquisition, the Arif Habib Consortium also confirmed Fauji Fertilizer Company as a strategic partner in the deal. Representatives of the group welcomed the partnership, calling it a strong step toward the airline’s revival.

The consortium plans to invest Rs125 billion in PIA over the next year. Key goals include modernising operations, expanding the fleet from 18 to 62 aircraft, improving passenger services, and creating better professional opportunities for employees.

“Enhancing passenger experience and providing a strong working platform for employees will remain our top priorities,” the Arif Habib Group said, expressing confidence that the reforms will help restore PIA as Pakistan’s flagship airline.
