Cases of pneumonia among children have increased to an alarming level due to dry cold weather and viral infections.

‎According to details, more than 3,000 cases of pneumonia among children have been reported in five major government hospitals over the past seven days, causing serious concern in medical circles.

‎According to statistics, 920 children affected by pneumonia were reported at the Children’s Hospital during the last seven days. More than 700 cases were reported in the pediatric ward of Services Hospital, while over 610 children were affected by pneumonia in the Children’s Ward of Mayo Hospital during the same period.

‎The report further stated that more than 450 cases were reported in the pediatric ward of Jinnah Hospital, while cases of pneumonia were also reported in Ganga Ram Hospital and General Hospital, with more than four children affected.

‎Symptoms of Pneumonia in Children:

‎Pneumonia in children is considered a common disease. While it is common, it is also dangerous, as it causes the deaths of millions of children every year. According to the World Health Organization, 14 percent of children die each year due to pneumonia, and in 2019 alone, approximately 7.5 million children lost their lives because of it.

‎Children under the age of five are most commonly affected by this disease. Therefore, parents need to take timely measures to protect their children from this life-threatening illness. If a child contracts pneumonia, their health can be severely affected, and its impact can last for several weeks or even months.

‎Parents should first understand the causes that make children vulnerable to pneumonia. Generally, children face pneumonia due to bacteria, viruses, and fungi. For this reason, pneumonia is considered a contagious disease. Since it can easily spread from one child to another, it is necessary to adopt preventive measures to protect children from it.
