A significant rise in stomach-related illnesses, particularly gastro cases, has been observed in Karachi due to the recent intense heat.
According to officials at Jinnah Hospital, more than 150 patients are visiting the hospital daily with stomach ailments, compared to around 50 on normal days.
Hospital administration stated that most patients are presenting with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loose motions, which may be the result of consuming contaminated water and substandard food.
Medical experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures, including using clean and boiled water and avoiding stale and uncovered food.
Experts have emphasized that washing hands before eating and maintaining proper hygiene is extremely important.
In view of the extreme heat, experts have also declared the increased use of water, oral rehydration solutions (ORS), and other fluids essential to prevent dehydration.
