Nine doctors and one nurse have been suspended over the surgery of a suspected HIV positive patient at Nishtar Hospital in Multan.
According to the notification, action against all individuals concerned will continue until the inquiry is completed, while the training of postgraduate trainee doctors involved in the incident has also been suspended immediately.
The Medical Superintendent of Nishtar Hospital said that all suspended doctors cannot leave the station without permission, while a four member inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
It is pertinent to mention that three days ago, doctors of the surgery department performed surgery on a patient without receiving the HIV report, while it was later revealed after the report arrived that the suspected patient was HIV positive.
According to the MS of Nishtar Hospital, HIV tests of more than 10 doctors and staff members working in the operation theatre have also been conducted.
