The Sindh government has announced the launch of an anti rabies campaign to control rabies cases.
The Chief Minister of Sindh announced a zero tolerance policy over the increase in dog bite cases. He directed that anti rabies vaccines and treatment should remain available 24 hours at all referral centres.
A meeting regarding rabies prevention was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, attended by Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho, Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, the Chief Secretary Sindh and senior officials of the Health and Local Government departments.
The meeting decided to launch an anti rabies campaign across the province and adopt a zero tolerance policy towards preventable rabies deaths.
During the briefing, the meeting was informed that 85,891 dog bite cases have been reported across Sindh from January to April 2026.
At present, 278 rabies prevention units and 112 referral centres are operational in the province, where instructions have been issued to ensure the availability of anti rabies vaccines and RIG round the clock.
The meeting was informed that more than 25,500 dogs have been sterilized and over 36,900 dogs vaccinated in 20 districts so far. Another 11 rabies control centres will soon be made operational.
He also directed the Information Department to intensify a seven day awareness campaign in Sindhi, Urdu and English languages, stating that public awareness is the strongest defense against rabies.
