The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially appointed former New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson as the new head coach for Pakistan’s limited-overs (white-ball) cricket teams. His appointment will come into effect from May 26, 2025.
Hesson brings with him a wealth of international experience, having led New Zealand to the ICC Cricket World Cup final in 2015, and previously coached Kenya as well as IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Most recently, he guided Islamabad United to victory in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised Hesson’s strategic mindset and consistent track record in building competitive teams at the international level. Hesson succeeds Aqib Javed, who was serving as interim coach following the resignation of Gary Kirsten just six months into his term.
In a related move, Aqib Javed has been appointed as the Director of High Performance at PCB. The board has yet to announce a permanent head coach for the Test format.
Meanwhile, Pakistan is scheduled to host Bangladesh for a five-match T20I series later this month, marking the beginning of Hesson’s coaching responsibilities.
