The  Higher Education Commission Pakistan (HEC) has announced new rules and updated guidelines for the recognition of foreign degrees aimed at improving transparency, standardization, and evaluation of international qualifications.

According to the new framework, foreign degrees will now be assessed more strictly based on institution accreditation, program duration, credit hours, and equivalence with Pakistani degree standards. The revised policy is designed to ensure that only authentic and academically valid qualifications are recognized in the country.

HEC officials stated that applicants will be required to provide complete academic documentation, including transcripts, degree verification, and institution accreditation proof. Any discrepancies or incomplete records may result in delays or rejection of equivalence requests.

The updated rules also aim to align Pakistan’s higher education standards with international quality benchmarks and reduce misuse of foreign degree equivalence certificates.

Education experts have welcomed the move, saying it will strengthen academic credibility and improve trust in higher education systems.

Conclusion: The new HEC guidelines are expected to bring greater clarity and fairness to the recognition of foreign qualifications while ensuring academic integrity in Pakistan.
