QUETTA — Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti announced on Sunday that a civil award will be conferred upon a hospital employee who rushed to rescue a female doctor during a horrific acid attack at Quetta’s Civil Hospital.
The incident occurred on Saturday when Dr. Mahnoor Nisar was targeted inside the medical facility. Police reports indicate that a hospital employee allegedly threw acid on the doctor, leaving her with severe burn injuries across her face, chest, legs, and other parts of her body. CCTV footage of the aftermath captured the critical moment Dr. Nisar ran out of a room in agony, where another employee, identified as Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, immediately intervened to help by covering her with his jacket to shield her from further harm.
Praising Tarakai’s quick thinking and bravery, Chief Minister Bugti stated on social media platform X that Tarakai “displayed extraordinary courage, humanity, and dedication” during the crisis. He emphasized that such valiant individuals are true assets to society, setting a profound example of serving humanity under the most challenging circumstances.
The act of bravery also drew high-level national recognition. Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari strongly condemned the brutal assault and formally requested President Asif Ali Zardari to confer the country’s highest civilian award for gallantry upon Tarakai. According to a statement from the President’s Secretariat, she commended his “selfless gallantry,” noting that his timely intervention helped save a precious life and serves as an inspiration to the entire nation.
Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari further stressed that violence against women has absolutely no place in society and demanded that the perpetrators face the full force of the law, urging relevant authorities to implement stricter measures to ensure such horrific incidents are entirely prevented in the future.
