The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that the total number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda has risen to 471, highlighting continued community transmission of the deadly virus in the affected regions.
According to the latest WHO epidemiological update, the DRC has recorded 452 confirmed cases and 82 deaths, while Uganda has reported 19 confirmed cases and two deaths. Health authorities said the two countries registered 100 new confirmed infections and 20 deaths within 24 hours, indicating that the outbreak remains a major public health concern.
In response to the growing crisis, the WHO and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) have launched a continent-wide preparedness and response plan aimed at strengthening surveillance, improving outbreak detection, and supporting affected countries. The initiative seeks to mobilize $518 million for Ebola response efforts between June and November 2026.
Health officials emphasized that sustained community transmission, cross-border movement, and limited healthcare resources continue to pose challenges to containing the outbreak.
