Peshawar — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has approved a Rs2.17 trillion budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur Afridi pledging to prioritize peace, development, and public welfare across the province.

Speaking after the budget’s passage, the chief minister said the government remains committed to strengthening law and order while ensuring economic growth and improved public services. He emphasized that sustainable peace is essential for attracting investment, creating jobs, and improving living standards for citizens.

The newly approved budget includes significant allocations for education, healthcare, infrastructure development, social welfare programs, and public safety. Provincial authorities stated that the financial plan aims to address key challenges facing the province while accelerating development in both urban and rural areas.

A major portion of the budget has been earmarked for development projects, including road networks, water supply schemes, school upgrades, and healthcare facilities. Officials said these initiatives are expected to enhance service delivery and support long-term economic progress.

During his address, CM Afridi stressed that maintaining peace and stability would remain the government’s top priority in the coming fiscal year. He noted that improved security conditions are vital for economic activity and the successful implementation of development projects throughout the province.

Opposition members raised concerns over certain budget estimates and spending priorities during assembly proceedings. Some lawmakers questioned revenue projections and called for greater transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

Government representatives, however, defended the budget, describing it as a balanced financial plan designed to meet public needs while supporting economic growth. They expressed confidence that the proposed expenditures would help improve the quality of life for residents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Economic analysts observed that the Rs2.17 trillion budget reflects the province’s ambitious development agenda despite ongoing fiscal challenges. They noted that effective implementation and efficient resource management would be critical to achieving the government’s objectives.

The approval of the budget comes amid broader economic challenges facing Pakistan, including inflationary pressures and increasing demands for public services. Provincial leaders hope that targeted investments and improved governance will contribute to greater stability and prosperity.

As the new fiscal year approaches, public attention is expected to focus on the government’s ability to fulfill its promises of peace, development, and improved public services. The success of the budget will largely depend on how effectively planned projects are implemented and whether they deliver meaningful benefits to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
