The Allied Health Professionals Council has issued new regulations making a house job mandatory for allied health graduates.
According to the decision, no allied health professional will be granted a professional license without completing the required house job.
Under the notification, graduates who complete a four year allied health degree program will be required to undertake a six-month house job, while graduates of five-year degree programs will be required to complete a one year house job. During this period, allied health graduates will be designated as house officers, similar to doctors.
Following the council’s decision, the overall duration of allied health degree programs will also increase. However, the council has not yet clarified whether a stipend will be provided during the house job period.
