The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has declared two samples of auto disable syringes as substandard.
According to media reports, the Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory report stated that samples of 5ml and 3ml auto disable syringes failed to meet the required standards, as the auto disable feature did not function according to the required specifications during testing. Both syringe samples have been declared substandard under the Medical Device Rules 2017.
According to DG SDTL Dr. Adnan Rizvi, the syringes declared substandard were manufactured by a pharmaceutical company based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The auto disable and reuse feature tests of the syringes failed.
The testing found that the syringes’ automatic safety mechanism was not effective. The test reports have been sent to the Inspector Drugs Karachi East and the Secretary of the Quality Control Board.
The substandard auto disable syringes could pose a risk to the safe administration of injections.
