Global: A new study suggests that a specially formulated liquid treatment could help stop tooth decay in its early stages, potentially reducing the need for traditional dental drilling and fillings. Researchers say the approach aims to repair and strengthen damaged tooth enamel before cavities become severe.

The treatment works by delivering minerals directly to areas of early enamel damage, encouraging the natural remineralization process. According to the researchers, this could halt the progression of small cavities, preserving more of the natural tooth structure and making dental care less invasive.

Experts note that the liquid therapy is designed for early-stage tooth decay and is not a replacement for fillings when cavities have already become large or reached the inner layers of the tooth. Good oral hygiene, including regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste, flossing, limiting sugary foods and drinks, and routine dental check-ups, remains essential for preventing tooth decay.

While the study’s findings are promising, researchers say additional clinical trials are needed to confirm the treatment’s long-term effectiveness and safety before it becomes widely available in dental clinics. If successful, the innovation could provide dentists with a new, minimally invasive option for managing early tooth decay and improving patient comfort.
