ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s merchandise exports to North America experienced a modest 1.32 percent growth during FY26, reaching $6.503 billion compared to $6.418 billion in the previous fiscal year, according to data compiled by the State Bank of Pakistan. Concurrently, imports from the region surged by 6.52 percent to $3.822 billion, up from $3.588 billion. The sharp expansion in imports was largely driven by a new reciprocal trade agreement with the United States under President Donald Trump’s administration, which requires Pakistan to increase imports of oil and other commodities from the U.S. to narrow the bilateral trade deficit in exchange for tariff relief. Consequently, U.S. imports jumped by nearly 39 percent to $3.265 billion, while Pakistani exports to the U.S. inched up by a modest 1.55 percent to $6.125 billion, maintaining the U.S. share at roughly 94 percent of total exports to North America.

Regional performance varied across categories: while exports to Canada contracted by 2.30 percent to $377.455 million, trade indicators across Latin and Central America showed mixed trends. Exports to Latin America dipped 8.32 percent to $66.98 million, and shipments to Central America—led by Mexico—fell 2.11 percent to $165.86 million. In contrast, South American destinations such as Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay delivered a positive performance, posting a 15 percent increase in Pakistani exports to reach $402.39 million for FY26.
