There is not a single warehouse available for storing emergency medicines and kits received to deal with epidemic diseases.
Revealing this, sources in the Ministry of Health said that there is also no designated warehouse for medicines purchased for hepatitis C in Pakistan.
The sources stated that the District Health Office in Islamabad converted parking areas into temporary rooms to be used as warehouses.
According to Ministry of Health sources, the United Nations Population Fund has provided 742 Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care and Family Planning kits, but authorities are facing difficulties in storing them.
The Ministry of Health sources said that medicines for 1.6 million patients under the Prime Minister Hepatitis C Elimination Program have been procured.
They said that rooms were prepared and storage racks were installed in 2023 so that medicines could be stored temporarily.
DHO Dr. Rashida said that the medicines do not deteriorate at these locations; however, letters have been sent to development partners regarding the establishment of a dedicated warehouse.
