Risk of Dengue Virus Spread in Southern Regions of the Country, Experts Warn

The risk of dengue is expected to increase in the southern urban areas of Pakistan, particularly in Sindh and parts of southern Punjab, due to hot and humid weather.

‎According to experts, high temperatures, standing water after rainfall, and poor drainage in urban areas provide a favorable environment for the breeding of dengue-carrying mosquitoes, increasing the risk of the spread of the dengue virus.

‎Medical experts have advised citizens not to allow water to accumulate in homes, offices, and surrounding areas, to use mosquito repellents and sprays, wear full-sleeved clothing, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, body aches, headache, or pain behind the eyes appear.

‎Experts have urged the relevant authorities to strengthen timely surveillance, fogging operations, larva elimination campaigns, and public awareness efforts in affected areas to effectively prevent the possible spread of dengue.

‎Meanwhile, global and regional research also indicates that rising temperatures and urban environments can increase the risk of dengue transmission.
