The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is facing a fresh wave of internal turbulence after a series of heated exchanges between senior party figures leaked from private WhatsApp groups. The arguments, which took place over the last 48 hours, expose a growing divide over the party’s ongoing legal strategy and the distribution of influence within the central leadership.

The clashes centered on the party’s recent approach to street protests and the lack of a unified stance regarding negotiations with the establishment. Senior members traded sharp accusations, with some questioning the decision-making authority of those currently steering the party’s policy from behind the scenes.

“We are fighting a battle on two fronts, but we’re busy attacking each other,” one senior leader commented in the group, according to screenshots verified by multiple party insiders. The message was met with a scathing retort from a provincial office-bearer, who dismissed the senior leader’s input as “out of touch with the reality on the ground.”

These digital spats aren’t just venting sessions; they reflect the exhaustion of a party leadership that has spent months in legal limbo. With key figures either incarcerated or in hiding, the vacuum of formal command has allowed personal rivalries to fester. The WhatsApp group, intended as a secure channel for operational planning, has instead become a cockpit for airing long-standing grievances.

Insiders suggest that the friction is exacerbated by the absence of Imran Khan’s direct, daily oversight. In the past, the former prime minister acted as the final arbiter for such disputes. Now, without his immediate intervention, factions are hardening their positions, leaving mid-level workers confused about who actually holds the mandate to issue directives.

Publicly, the party remains committed to its narrative of unity. However, the tone of the leaked messages suggests a breakdown in the command structure that has historically kept the PTI’s disparate wings aligned.

As the party prepares for its next phase of political mobilization, these internal tremors threaten to undermine its ability to sustain any meaningful pressure. The question for the rank-and-file isn’t just about the next protest date—it’s whether the leadership can stop the infighting long enough to remain a coherent political force.
