KARACHI: A delegation from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) visited the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) to discuss ways to further strengthen medical education and postgraduate training.

The visit included an interactive session with SIUT faculty and trainees, providing an opportunity to exchange views on the current training environment and identify areas where medical education can be further improved.

SIUT has an established medical education system offering undergraduate and postgraduate training in areas including urology, nephrology, transplantation, gastroenterology and infectious diseases. The institute also prepares doctors for CPSP Fellowship and Membership programmes.

The CPSP has previously recognised SIUT departments for postgraduate training. In 2024, SIUT’s Paediatric Cardiology Department received FCPS training accreditation, reflecting its ability to provide a training environment meeting CPSP standards.

The latest engagement highlights the importance of collaboration between professional medical education bodies and teaching institutions in maintaining high standards of postgraduate training. Discussions between CPSP and SIUT can help support faculty development, strengthen clinical learning and improve opportunities for doctors undergoing specialist training.

Medical education has also remained a major focus for CPSP through its workshops and International Medical Education Conference, covering areas such as competency-based education, clinical supervision, assessment and postgraduate training.

The visit is expected to contribute to continued efforts to enhance the quality of specialist medical training and ensure that future healthcare professionals receive structured, standardised and practical education.
