KARACHI: A sessions court in Karachi has extended the interim bail of Muhammad Ahmed, a business partner of slain businessman Mir Raza Ali, until September 1, 2026, and directed him to join the ongoing police investigation.

The hearing was held at the City Court on Ahmed’s petition seeking interim bail.

During the proceedings, Ahmed’s lawyer Khalid Mumtaz argued that his client had sought bail because he was Mir Raza’s business partner and could potentially be falsely implicated in the case. He also alleged that police had repeatedly summoned Ahmed to the police station and harassed him.

Representing Mir Raza’s family, lawyer Jibran Nasir told the court that police had summoned Ahmed for questioning rather than arrest. He said Ahmed had lived with Mir Raza and that investigators therefore needed to record his statement.

Nasir argued that there were currently no grounds for granting Ahmed bail and that his cooperation was necessary for the investigation.

The court questioned the investigating officer about the progress of the murder investigation. The officer informed the court that the probe was still underway.

The court also asked whether Ahmed had been formally nominated as a suspect. The investigating officer said Ahmed had not been named as an accused and that his name did not appear in any police report or charge sheet. He added that the challan had not yet been prepared.

After hearing the arguments, the court extended Ahmed’s interim bail until September 1, 2026 and directed him to cooperate with police and appear at the station to join the investigation.

The court also barred Ahmed from leaving Karachi until the next hearing.
